BREAKING: Lakers Add Frontcourt Depth with Villanova Standout as Eric Dixon Agrees to Two-Way NBA Contract with the Lakers

In a move that adds size, skill, and versatility to their developmental pipeline, the Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a two-way NBA contract with former Villanova forward/center Eric Dixon, according to league sources. The deal provides the Lakers with another intriguing option as they continue building out their roster for the upcoming season.

Who Is Eric Dixon?

Eric Dixon, a 6’8″, 255-pound big man, made a name for himself at Villanova as a strong, physical presence in the paint with an improved outside shot. During his final collegiate season, Dixon averaged 16.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, and shot over 35% from three-point range, showcasing his ability to stretch the floor and compete against elite talent in the Big East.

Known for his toughness, basketball IQ, and leadership, Dixon went undrafted but quickly became a sought-after target for teams looking to develop high-IQ, multi-skilled forwards.

What a Two-Way Deal Means

Under the terms of a two-way contract, Dixon will split time between the Los Angeles Lakers and their G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers. He’ll be eligible to play in up to 50 NBA games during the regular season, giving the Lakers flexibility to call him up based on need, development, and injuries.

Two-way contracts have become a key part of NBA roster construction, allowing teams to invest in young talent while navigating salary cap constraints.

Lakers’ Continued Focus on Youth Development

Dixon joins a growing list of young players the Lakers are developing alongside their veteran stars. After adding rookies and undrafted players with strong college resumes, Los Angeles continues to show a commitment to balancing its win-now core with long-term potential.

The Lakers view Dixon as a player who can contribute both defensively and offensively in small-ball lineups, and his ability to guard multiple positions makes him a valuable fit in today’s switch-heavy NBA schemes.

What’s Next for Dixon

Dixon is expected to debut with the Lakers in Summer League, where he’ll have a chance to showcase his skills and earn minutes heading into training camp. With the Lakers always on the lookout for under-the-radar contributors, Dixon has a real opportunity to carve out a role at the next level.
