SAD NEWS AS THE VOLUNTEERS COACH FIRED TWO (2) QB ROOM FOR.
Defensive backs for the Tennessee Volunteers are still leaving due to the transfer portal.
The first defensive backs to enter the portal were Doneiko Slaughter, Jack Luttrell, Warren Burrell, and Brandon Turnage. Afterwards, De’Shawn Rucker and Tamarion McDonald added their names to the list on Monday.
Still, there are other defensive backs besides those six who won’t be going back to Rocky Top in 2024. Kamal Hadden and Jaylen McCollough are unable to return because they have used up all of their eligibility. This indicates that the Vols will probably lose eight cornerbacks in the offseason.
With the current depth being extremely thin, the team will probably make some additions through the transfer portal.
There won’t be enough secondary players for the Citrus Bowl.
On New Year’s Day, the Vols and Iowa Hawkeyes will square off in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl. If things continue this way, the Vols might have to rely on a number of young players to step in for that game. Gabe Jeudy-Lally should be back in the game, and McCollough will play. Currently, Wesley Walker, Rickey Gibson, and Jourdan Thomas are the other options on the team.
The two losses that will probably have the biggest effects on the people who used the portal are McDonald and Slaughter. For the Vols in 2023, McDonald recorded 40 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 interception. Slaughter recorded one sack and thirty-two tackles.
