VIKINGS HAS FINALLY AGREED WITH THE $750M DEAL WITH.
After “excellent” play in 2023 prior to injury, Kirk Cousins is expected to be re-signed by the Minnesota Vikings.
An NFL insider recently predicted that the Minnesota Vikings would re-sign Kirk Cousins this offseason. After Cousins suffered a season-ending Achilles injury more than a month ago, the 7–7 Vikings are still very much in the running for the playoffs.
Due to their poor record, the Vikings will be drafted too late in 2024, which will give them the opportunity to choose a top quarterback prospect in the first round. With Jordan Addison, who is in his second season in Minnesota, and Justin Jefferson, two outstanding offensive players, the Vikings should be able to try to contend for a Super Bowl the following season.
ESPN’s Bill Barnwell recently shared his prediction for the Vikings’ quarterback position for the upcoming season. According to Barnwell, it makes sense for the Vikings to extend Cousins’ contract by two years this offseason. That ought to be sufficient to contain the Vikings while their revamped defense supports an intriguing offensive lineup.
Based on Cousins’ performance prior to the injury and the defense’s improvement this season, Barnwell believes the Vikings front office will want to run it again in 2024:
It has taken many different turns. Before rupturing his Achilles tendon, Kirk Cousins was having a great football season. Joshua Dobbs, a recent acquisition, took over after Jaren Hall suffered a concussion while leading the Vikings to consecutive wins. After losing two straight games and then emerging victorious in a thrilling 3-0 victory over the Raiders, Dobbs was benched in favor of Mullens, who was sidelined due to a back injury for a while.
The Vikings should be eliminated with a rotating group of quarterbacks and without receiver Justin Jefferson. Instead, the Vikings have been able to stay in games thanks to a defense that, under Brian Flores, has improved the most from season to season of any team in the league. With an EPA per play allowed of sixth in the NFL since Week 4, the Vikings are in the wild-card race with three other teams at 7-7.
If the Vikings play their cards correctly in free agency and the draft, they could be a threat in the upcoming campaign. The Vikings should be a formidable team in 2024 if Kirk Cousins can recover from his Achilles injury and perform at the same level as he did this season, rather than having to start a new offense around a rookie quarterback.
