suddenly; the eagles boute two top star players from the vikings for their next match with Buccaneers.
Eagles waste no time hiring Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator.
The Eagles’ year-end press conference featuring Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni coincided with the announcement that Fangio was leaving the Dolphins, thus they were ill-prepared to respond to inquiries regarding their clear-cut favorite.
On Wednesday afternoon, Sirianni stated clumsily, “We’re working through a lot of good targets.” Many of the boys have performed quite well during the interview process, and I’m excited to get on with it. We’ll see what happens.” It was not long before this occurred.
The 65-year-old Fangio, who has extensive NFL coaching experience with multiple teams, is joining the Eagles. To be exact, Fangio will be calling the defense for the ninth different team this season, starting with the Eagles. He has previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Broncos as head coach and the DC for the Panthers, Colts, Texans, 49ers, Bears, and Dolphins.
Without a doubt, the Eagles are bringing in a skilled defensive coordinator who can assume total control over that aspect of the game.
The Eagles actually intended to sign Fangio during the previous offseason, but the schedule didn’t work out. When former DC Jonathan Gannon announced he was going to assume the Arizona Fangio has previously consented to take on the position of DC in Miami. Sean Desai, who had previously collaborated with Fangio, was instead hired by the Eagles. Actually, Desai’s bond with Fangio was one of the main selling points when the Eagles acquired him.
In May of last year, Desai made the following remarks regarding the relationship at his inaugural news conference:
“For however long we were together—five years or whatever—I had the wonderful fortune to sit next to him when he was doing that and learn it. I understand why he feels frustrated about so many people discussing his plan and system; after all, he should be proud of having built an identity and defenses for himself over the course of thirty years, and the truth is that not everyone is doing it in the same way. There are just a few individuals who have actually worked under him and spent significant time with him; everyone must apply that defense and add their own identity to it.
spent time with him, worked for him, and genuinely learned from him; the others obtained their knowledge from other sources. It is comparable to the telephone game. How many times, if we continue, will there still be communication at the end? Considering how successful he has been, I believe he should be quite proud of the way he has accomplished it.
The previous season, the Eagles hired the student. They employed the teacher for this year. And that certainly looks like far greater value. The Eagles have been committed to implementing some of the NFL pioneering concepts that Fangio introduced for the past few years. It would be better to go after the person if you were going to do that.
