Adin Hill stops 36 shots and Jonathan Marchessault scores three times as the Golden Knights defeat the Rangers 5-2
NEW YORK Adin Hill made 36 saves, Jonathan Marchessault scored three goals, and the advancing Vegas Golden Knights defeated the New York Rangers 5-2 on Friday night.
With goals from Sheldon Rempal and Keegan Kolesar, Vegas has improved to 5-0-1 in its previous six games. Nicolas Roy added two assists, while Ivan Barbashev contributed three.
With 30 seconds left, Marchessault finished with his second hat trick of the year and his seventh overall, including two in the playoffs, into an empty goal. During a six-game point streak, it was his 25th goal of the year, giving him eight goals and three assists.
You’re lucky sometimes and not so lucky other times. Marchessault stated, “It goes in occasionally and out of it. “You just want to keep it going when you’re hot.”
After losing nine of thirteen (4-7-2) this month, the Rangers, fresh off a 1-2-1 trip to the West Coast, saw goals and assists from Blake Wheeler and Kaapo Kakko. Igor Shesterkin made a total of fifteen saves.
After winning 25 of its first 35 games, New York still leads Carolina by two points at the top of the Metropolitan Division. Captain Jacob Trouba of the Rangers stated, “We have to play through this thing.” “We need to retrieve pucks and get to the net more often. We must continue to work.
After missing more than a month due to an injury that was not revealed, Hill is starting his second straight game and has stopped 76 of the 80 shots he has faced.
“Reunited with the team is just enjoyable,” Hill remarked. “My body feels good, I feel well, and I can accomplish everything that needs to be done. Just keep improving on it because it’s beneficial for mental health and confidence. At 2:10 of the third quarter, Marchessault increased the Golden Knights’ lead to 4-1 by scoring off a rebound off the end boards following a Barbashev shot. With just over four minutes left, New York substituted Shesterkin for an additional skater, and Kakko scored on a left-side rebound.
At 3:18 of the second, Kolesar beat Shesterkin glove side after blocking an attempt by Artemi Panarin to skate up the ice on a breakaway, giving Vegas a 2-1 lead. It was his fourth.
Kolesar remarked, “I found some space, luckily it found the back of the net.” “Everyone in this room is aware of the stakes. We see that the journey began with just one point—a Monday overtime setback in New Jersey—and that tomorrow in Detroit, we have the opportunity to score seven of eight points.
In the first period, New York outshot Vegas 15–6, but 5:02 into the game, Rempal gave the Golden Knights the lead 1-0 after Paul Cotter’s hard shot from the right circle seemed to deflect off his stick and Shesterkin’s blocker. Three days prior, in Vegas’ 3-2 victory over the New York Islanders, the 28-year-old Rempal scored his first NHL goal. This was his second consecutive game of scoring.
