In last Sunday’s 4-1 win against the Minnesota Wild, Detroit Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat was slew-footed by Wild forward Ryan Hartman.

There was no penalty called on the play (and DeBrincat even received a minor as a result his retaliation, but Hartman ultimately received a two-game suspension from the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.

In the above video (an excerpt from the latest episode of The Silky Mitten State), my co-host Connor Earegood and I discussed the play, as well as the more complex question of “intent to injure” in the context of a chaotic game like hockey.
