The Cardinals’ primary running back, James Conner, has returned. However, the situation may have gained momentum on Wednesday when Michael Carter was claimed off waivers by the Cardinals after being released by the New York Jets.

Before being unexpectedly let go this week, Carter—a 2021 fourth-round pick—had played a significant role in the Jets backfield over the previous two seasons.

Doug Kramer Jr., an offensive lineman that the Cardinals had just taken off waivers last week, was let go to make place.

After Keaontay Ingram, rookie Emari Demercado, and Conner, he is now the fourth running back on the 53-man roster.

Carter recorded 36 receptions for 325 yards and 4 touchdowns in 639 yards of rushes as a rookie. He rushed for 402 yards and three touchdowns last season in addition to hauling in 41 passes for 288 yards. During those two years, he participated in 30 games.

This season, the Jets’ top two running backs are Dalvin Cook and Breece Hall. In nine games, Carter has only eight carries for 38 yards and 15 receptions for 68 yards.
