The Chiefs are making their first big wide receiver splash of the 2024 offseason, adding Hollywood Brown to the reigning champs.
The Kansas City Chiefs have been largely silent thus far in the NFL offseason. General manager Brett Veach made a significant statement on Thursday night. With the addition of significant offensive weapons, the defending Super Bowl winners are making quarterback Patrick Mahomes a formidable receiving threat.
Ian Rapoport reports that the Kansas City Chiefs have signed free agency wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown to a one-year contract worth as much as $11 million. It is reported by Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated to be a $7 million one-year contract.
Brown’s career has been rather up and down up till now.
He turns 27 in June. With the Baltimore Ravens, the 2019 first-round pick made a big impression. In 2021, he caught 91 catches for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns, which was a career high. After being traded, the former Oklahoma great played two seasons in the desert with the Arizona Cardinals. He finished with 118 receptions, 1,283 yards, and seven touchdowns in 26 games during the course of those two seasons.
Brown is a quick weapon that is smaller in stature and excels at posing a threat to defenders down the field. In his five seasons to date, he has averaged a double-digit depth of target while playing around two-thirds of his time in the slot and seventy-one percent of his time out wide. This previous season, he excelled against man coverage, averaging 1.96 yards per route run.
