Anthony Gordon criticizes the “ridiculous” regulations after a Newcastle player receives a punishment.
Following the referee’s “ridiculous” decision to punish Anthony Gordon for Newcastle’s Tuesday match against Everton, Gordon has responded strongly.
Gordon played a major role in Newcastle’s thrilling 4-3 Premier League comeback victory over West Ham on Saturday. The England attacker assisted Harvey Barnes in scoring the late victory and won both penalties that Alexander Isak converted.
But in the 94th minute, referee Rob Jones gave him a second yellow card, ruining his happy afternoon. When Gordon kicked the ball away, he was already booked for time-wasting and received another yellow card.
“I took the ball with a tap. Depending on how much research you want to do, that’s very amazing,” he remarked. “To be dismissed for five yards of ball tapping.” To tell the truth, the only reason I believe he hired me is that he was unaware that I had already been scheduled. To be honest with you, that isn’t good enough.
Referees have a job to do, so I don’t want to whine about them. He is abiding by the laws and regulations of the game as they are the rules, but it’s very absurd.
When Everton visits St. James’ Park on Tuesday night, Gordon will automatically serve a one-game suspension. The 23-year-old attacker would have been excited to play against them after joining Newcastle from the Toffees for £45 million back in January 2023.
Although Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is devastated to lose Gordon for the match, he is certain that two-goal hero Barnes can fill the void. He remarked, “That’s a huge blow for us; it really kind of summed up the day.” Another absentee. “A major setback for us, particularly for him personally given the nature of the game, but at least we have players who are in form in Harvey and Elliot Anderson.”
In the 83rd minute, Barnes, who had entered the game in the 67th minute, scored a goal through Lukas Fabinaski’s legs to tie the score at three. The former Leicester winger then won it with an incredible display of talent, bending the ball from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.
