Houston signs former Browns LB Jacob Phillips, according to the Texans free-agent tracker.

Former Browns linebacker Jacob Phillips has signed with the Texans, the team announced on Tuesday.

Due to a ruptured pectoral muscle during the preseason, 25-year-old Phillips was sidelined for the whole 2023 season. If he can stay healthy, he may give the Texans depth at linebacker.
Throughout his four-year career, he has participated in 20 games and made eight starts.

The Texans are re-signing linebacker Neville Hewitt to a one-year deal, a source with knowledge of the deal confirmed to the Chronicle.

Hewitt played in 16 games for the Texans last season and finished with 14 tackles. He was one of the Texans’ best special teams players and adds much-needed depth at linebacker.

Hewitt, 30, is entering his 10th year in the league and his fourth season with the Texans. He started in five games for the Texans in 2021 and had 60 tackles. He played for the Dolphins and Jets before joining the Texans.

The Texans are signing free-agent cornerback Myles Bryant to a one-year contract, a person with knowledge of the deal told the Chronicle.

Bryant, who played his first four seasons with the Patriots gives the Texans depth at nickel cornerback after the departure of Tavierre Thomas in free agency.

Bryant played in all 17 games and made six starts. The 5-9, 192-pound Bryant had 65 tackles, two forced fumbles and an interception last season. He played some on the outside but was at his best in the slot.

Bryant should compete with Desmond King for the starting role. Bryant, 26, also adds value on special teams. He was the primary return man for the Patriots. He had 15 punt returns for 105 yards.

Cornerback C.J. Henderson, who was selected No. 9 overall in the 2020 NFL draft, and most recently played with the Carolina Panthers, has agreed to sign with the Texans, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to the Chronicle.

Henderson visited the Texans on Thursday and later reached an agreement. ESPN was the first to report the move.

Henderson began his career with the Jaguars, but was traded less than two years later to the Panthers after struggling to find a role in Jacksonville.

In 39 games with the Panthers, Henderson made 22 starts in three seasons. He has three interceptions in his four-year career, including two in 2022.
