Johansson played for the Grand Rapids Griffins for the duration of this season.

The Detroit Red Wings have re-signed defenseman Albert Johansson to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Wednesday.

Johansson, who was selected by the Red Wings in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft, recently concluded his second full season with the Grand Rapids Griffins, tallying six goals and fifteen assists for a total of 21 points in 66 games during the regular season.

Johansson also made nine appearances for the Griffins in the playoffs, racking up three assists.

Before moving to North America before the 2022–2023 season, Johansson had already played professionally with Farjestad BK in the SHL for portions of four seasons. Johansson scored 15 goals and provided 42 assists for 57 points in 141 regular season games.

It wouldn’t be shocking to see Johansson get his NHL debut with the Red Wings the following season as he aims to improve.

Johansson will probably play most of 2024–25 in the AHL, but if he has a good season, the Red Wings may be able to use him on a full-time basis as early as 2025–26.
