Columbus, Ohio — Jim Knowles, the defensive coordinator for Ohio State, reportedly met with Duke last week regarding the head coaching position, as the second-year coach of the Buckeyes was being considered for a position at a university where he spent more than ten years.
From 2010 to 2017, Knowles served as Duke’s coach before moving to Oklahoma State.

Coach Ryan Day responded to those rumors on Sunday following the announcement of Ohio State’s bowl destination.
“He informed me that they had made contact,” Day stated. I am aware that he was still interacting and communicating there. We’ll sort it out, but that’s just part of the job search at this time of year. Our guys will definitely always be in demand. Jim is an excellent coach who will have more chances in the future.
This season, Knowles’ defense gave up just 4.12 yards per play, third-lowest in the nation. Prior to the decisive matchup with Michigan, the team had not given up more than 17 points in a single contest.
Although Day wouldn’t comment on potential future coaching changes, he did confirm that Knowles had communicated with Duke.
