When Michigan football players learned they would be playing Alabama in the College Football Playoff semifinal, a video of their emotional reactions went viral. Any confident PR the Wolverines attempted to release about “We Want Bama” in the upcoming month will be neutralized by the video.

The playoff committee awarded the Wolverines the top overall seed on Sunday morning. The playoff committee controversially decided to force an SEC team over an undefeated Power 5 team, Florida State, and they will play the Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl.

Wolverines players appeared to be disappointed with the decision for a different reason than the many college football fans who were incensed over Florida State’s elimination and believed the committee had rigged the Crimson Tide into the playoffs for cash and television exposure.

The Michigan players seem afraid of their opponent in the semifinals.

The Wolverines’ players’ live reactions to learning they would be playing the Crimson Tide in the playoffs were captured on camera by Clayton Sayfie of Wolverine.com. When ESPN’s Rece Davis revealed that the Crimson Tide were ranked number four, players could be heard groaning.

The Wolverines’ apparent fear of facing the Crimson Tide next month is evident. The program of head coach Jim Harbaugh was not searched for in that video. In the 2020 Citrus Bowl, Harbaugh’s previous bowl game against head coach Nick Saban ended in defeat as the Crimson Tide defeated the Wolverines 35–16.

Speaking of Harbaugh, a lot of fans believed the reason the Crimson Tide made it to the playoffs was because the selection committee wanted higher ratings than an underachieving but worthy offense from Florida State would have garnered.

Is there even a remote chance that the committee intended to make it more difficult for the Wolverines to win the championship following this year’s controversy surrounding sign-stealing?
