Lincoln Riley on What Sets USC Trojans Quarterback Miller Moss Apart.

Playing quarterback is often regarded as the most demanding position in sports, requiring not just physical skills but also mental resilience and leadership. A quarterback sets the tone for the team’s accountability and commitment. They must remain composed under pressure while having the talent to make critical plays.

These qualities aptly describe USC Trojans quarterback Miller Moss.

In a recent game, Moss showcased his toughness, scoring a 7-yard touchdown run against Wisconsin despite significant pressure from defenders. USC coach Lincoln Riley praised Moss’s mental fortitude, noting that many players can perform well until they take a big hit, but Moss consistently stands strong in those moments.

During a crucial play late in the game, with USC trailing, Moss faced intense pressure but delivered a precise throw to Duce Robinson for a touchdown. This pivotal moment turned the game in USC’s favor.

Riley emphasized that while it would be ideal for quarterbacks to avoid hits, that’s often unrealistic, especially against strong defenses.

Moss demonstrated his grit in a previous match against Michigan, where he faced relentless pressure yet managed to throw three second-half touchdowns, nearly leading his team to victory.

Woody Marks, a running back, highlighted Moss’s resilience, noting his ability to bounce back after every hit, reinforcing his role as a vocal leader on and off the field.

Moss’s journey has been marked by perseverance. He could have transferred after the coaching change in 2021 or while behind Heisman winner Caleb Williams. Instead, he chose to develop his skills, waiting nearly three seasons before becoming the starting quarterback, where he set a bowl record with six touchdown passes in his debut.

Since the season opener against LSU, Moss has excelled, leading the conference in passing yards and earning recognition as a top contender for the Heisman trophy.
