Brisbane Broncos part ways with coach Kevin Walters a year after reaching the NRL grand final.

The Brisbane Broncos have dismissed coach Kevin Walters following a dramatic drop from NRL grand finalists to 12th place.

Officials informed Walters on Thursday that his time as coach had come to an end, amidst ongoing speculation about his future.

Initially considered one of the pre-season favorites after nearly clinching last year’s premiership, the Broncos experienced a mid-season downturn in 2024.

This slump coincided with numerous injuries to key players and raised concerns about fullback Reece Walsh’s performance.

Broncos chairman Karl Morris confirmed the decision on Thursday, expressing sympathy for Walters.

“We feel deeply for Kev,” he stated to News Corp. “He will always be a respected figure and a legend of the Broncos.”

Morris added, “Of course I am shocked. This is a significant and demanding role at the Broncos. We have great appreciation for Kevvie’s efforts and wish him well.”

Walters coached the Broncos for 99 games, achieving 50 wins.

With Trent Barrett already on the coaching staff for next season, the club will begin an immediate search for a new head coach.
