Fear of a Man Utd takeover arises as Sir Jim Ratcliffe insiders fret about a new delay
There may be more delay in Manchester United’s announcement of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment, according to reports.
It’s possible that Sir Jim Ratcliffe waits until next week to announce his takeover of Manchester United. The founder of INEOS had hoped that the deal would be finalized by now, but there are now new worries that official confirmation may be further delayed.
Ratcliffe plans to invest approximately £1.3 billion to acquire a 25% share in United. Sheikh Jassim, a competitor hoping to acquire the Old Trafford club entirely, was defeated by the British billionaire.
The Glazers, who currently own United, will continue to hold the majority of shares after Ratcliffe’s acquisition is approved. The lifelong Red Devils fan will, nevertheless, be given command of the football division.
As chief executive Richard Arnold has already announced his departure, he is planning to establish a new hierarchy in that area and is currently looking for a new sporting director. However, the fact that the investment hasn’t been revealed is starting to irritate people.
And the Telegraph says that might not happen until the following week. Ratcliffe is said to have wanted confirmation of everything by now.
However, there’s a good chance it won’t be decided upon before Thursday, when US Thanksgiving begins. Thus, it is quite possible that the story will continue until the last week of November.
It will be a year this week since the Glazers listed United for sale. From the beginning, it was unclear if the American family was seeking fresh investment for the club or a clean break.
Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim of Qatar emerged as the front-runners very rapidly. Sheikh Jassim made bids as high as £5.5 billion, but they were not as high as the Glazers’ estimated
While other members of the American family were reportedly happy to sever ties, co-owners Joel and Avram Glazer were still keen to remain at the club. Ratcliffe had offered to purchase 51% of the company in order to gain control, but he had never suggested a complete takeover.
