A “great team” admission from Oscar Mingueza gives West Ham a boost in transfers.

The defender Oscar Mingueza of Celta Vigo has given West Ham more momentum in their possible pursuit of him after the Spaniard gave the Hammers a boost amid rumors of a transfer.

While trying to downplay the rumors and say he is only focused on playing for the La Liga team, Mingueza continued to compliment West Ham and the team David Moyes has at his disposal.

The Spanish publication Fichajes [18 November] revealed that the Hammers may try to bring the defender to East London in January and linked them to a transfer move for him.

According to Spanish publication Moiceleste [21 November], Mingueza said in an interview with Galician TV, “I have nothing planned nor has anyone contacted me.” My attention is on Celta.

“West Ham is a fantastic team; they are a very nice team, but my attention is on Celta and the Valencia match.”

A possible improvement for the Hammers

Mingueza is one of the better options if Moyes’ team is eager to add a defender to try and fix their defensive problems. It also speaks volumes that he is open to talking about a move, despite his dismissive remarks.

Mingueza would be an improvement over Moyes’s current options and depth in East London, even though it would appear on paper that West Ham no longer needs a new defender after signing Konstantinos Mavropanos in the summer.

Originating from Barcelona’s La Masia academy, Mingueza is a versatile defender who can play both out of the backfield and at right defense. His ability to cover in midfield and right back could be a key component of his game.

The 24-year-old defender, who left Barcelona in search of playing time with Celta Vigo, has 154 appearances to his credit [Transfermarkt]. West Ham could offer him that opportunity.

In other West Ham news, David Sullivan might have to speed up player interviews.

After suffering a back injury while playing for his country, West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus will be evaluated when he returns to the London Stadium, according to Ryan Taylor.

Using his personal Twitter account, the Sunday Mirror journalist revealed on November 21 that the former Ajax midfielder has not been risked for Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Comoros on Tuesday due to back discomfort he had against Madagascar.

On Friday, November 17, Kudus participated in the entire 90 minutes as the Black Stars defeated Madagascar 1-0. Owuraku Ampofo, a reporter for 3Sports Ghana, provided video of the apparent injury that the Hammers star suffered.

“Mohammed Kudus has been named on the Ghana bench for their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Comoros,” wrote Taylor on social media. He hasn’t taken a chance because he is currently having back pain. Due for additional evaluation upon his return to London.

Whoa!

Amazingly, West Ham United is currently experiencing a severe injury crisis in a short period of time, which will undoubtedly cause Moyes to be rattled at London Stadium.

Due to a knock, fellow superstar Jarrod Bowen was also sent home early from the England camp, so he is also unlikely to play against Burnley on Saturday, November 25.

After Nayef Aguerd’s concussion worsened against Nottingham Forest, questions have also been raised about his fitness. Add Kudus to the mix, and it looks like three probable starters may not play at Turf Moor the following weekend.

To further compound a string of setbacks, Tomas Soucek endured injury and Vladimir Coufal was expelled from the Czech Republic team for going to a nightclub against protocol.
