Head coach Mike McDaniel announced on Saturday that outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips will miss the rest of the season with a torn Achilles, which is a major setback for the Miami Dolphins. Phillips was carted off the field and into the locker room after suffering an injury without contact in the fourth quarter of Friday’s game against the New York Jets.

In response, McDaniel addressed the matter, recognizing the effect of Phillips’ absence and outlining the Dolphins’ future.

According to ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques, McDaniel stated, “You don’t necessarily replace Jaelan Phillips.” However, there are people who are more than willing to step up and sort of get his production in different ways. Fortunately, there is some depth to us.

With four sacks this season, linebacker Andrew van Ginkel has shown he is capable of playing a bigger role for the Dolphins defensive scheme. Furthermore, it is anticipated that defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah, who signed a $65 million contract in the 2022 offseason and recorded 18 sacks in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, will be instrumental in covering for Phillips’ injury.

McDaniel highlighted the group’s strategy for

“You just give different people opportunities, and you kind of spread that out to do your best to compensate for that production loss, but you don’t necessarily replace him.”

The Dolphins, who defeated the Jets 34–13 to start their winning streak, will now have to maintain their defensive excellence without Phillips. Fans are excited to see how the lineup changes work out for the rest of what has been one of Miami’s best seasons in recent memory as the team modifies its approach.
