The NHL Department of Player Safety has fined New York Rangers‘ captain Jacob Trouba $5000 for a high-sticking incident against Boston Bruins’ forward Trent Frederic. I know what some of you are saying: “When did this happen?” At the 17:40 mark of the second period, Trouba was seen pushing Frederic away from a scrum near Jonathan Quick’s crease. During the encounter, video shows Frederic holding Trouba’s stick, followed by the Rangers captain pulling away by swinging it and making contact off the top of Frederic’s helmet.

Nothing happened on the ice as a result of the play, even though it was taking place directly in front of the referee. No penalties were given.

Coach Peter Laviolette praised Jacob Trouba, saying, “It starts with him. He has been an absolute warrior for our team.” “That was your team’s captain setting the tone against the Flyers last night and then delivering another outstanding performance to back it up.”

Trouba has led the team as captain for the past two complete seasons. On August 9, 2022, the Rangers bestowed upon him the title of 28th captain of the team.

Trouba wrote to Rangers supporters, “It is a privilege and an honor to be named the next captain of the New York Rangers.” One of the first things I did after hearing the news was research on the 27 captains who had come before me. Growing up, I used to watch players like Messier, Leetch, Jagr, and Drury, and I always wanted to be on their skates.
