Giants-Patriots ‘Kudos & Wet Willies’: Tommy Devito-Jalin Hyatt connection rises, more.

Whether you like it or not, the New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots 10-7 on Sunday to win their second straight football game and raise their record to 4-8. There is much to be happy about as well as critique, so let’s begin with our customary “Kudos & Wet Willies.”

Jalin Hyatt: After appearing to be a star during training camp, Hyatt, a rookie wide receiver, had the kind of performance that fans have been waiting for. Hyatt recorded his first career 100-yard receiving game with five catches for 109 yards, including gains of 41, 26, and 22 yards. There hadn’t been a 100-yard receiver for the Giants in 18 games during the regular season. Against the Detroit Lions on November 20, of the previous season, Wan’Dale Robinson had exactly 100 yards receiving.

Because “anybody that’s that fast and can make the plays that he makes is quarterback friendly,” according to quarterback Tommy DeVito, Hyatt is “quarterback friendly.”

“He’s just a unique person. Whatever you want to call him, he’s a route runner, special player, and a confident guy,” DeVito remarked. “He tells me that if we call this, he’s going to make play. I’m going to go get this ball for you.” Thus, it relieves me of a lot of burdens.

The Patriots were limited to seven points by the defensive effort that included second-year edge defender Kayvon Thibodeaux, who forced three interceptions. Thibodeaux recorded two tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and a half-sack.

Bobby Okereke—The seasoned linebacker is participating despite suffering from a sore hip, a fractured rib, and a fractured pinky finger. He still finished with eight tackles, two passes defensed, an interception, and a 55-yard return. When Okereke signed a four-year, $40 million contract with a $21.8 million guarantee from the Giants, some people raised an eyebrow, but his leadership and play are making him seem like a good value.

Tommy DeVito: In my post prior to the game on Sunday, I expressed my opinion that, upon Tyrod Taylor’s return from injured reserve, the Giants ought to continue starting him at quarterback. DeVito put on another strong performance, and the Giants won again, so I’m starting to believe that he should stay in the starting lineup.

Coach Brian Daboll refused to make that decision on Sunday, stating the team would talk about it during the bye week. Still, DeVito performed admirably. Despite the fact that the Giants only managed 10 points, DeVito finished 17 of 25 passes for 191 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions. Despite having two fumbles and losing one, he had a 103.9 passer rating.

He’s probably played two solid games in a row, so he made the right choices in doing what we asked of him. He’s completed the required passes and, for the most part, carried out his duties in the manner that the quarterback must in order to assist us, according to Daboll. We obviously want to increase our point total. It is undeniable, but there are a lot of factors involved as well. All of us must continue performing our duties to the best of our abilities.
