JUST IN: Ben Johnson of the Detroit Lions May Be….

Ben Johnson of the Detroit Lions may be the Carolina Panthers’ target.

After just 11 games as the head coach of the Carolina Panthers, David Tepper has made the decision to let Frank Reich go. Regretfully, Carolina had a 1-10 record to begin the season and had shown little progress in the previous few weeks. Tepper posted a statement online, saying, “I met with Coach Reich this morning and informed him that he will not continue as head coach of the Carolina Panthers.” “I want to thank Frank for his dedication and service, and we wish him well.” For the fifth straight week, the Panthers scored 15 points or less in Week 12. According to his QBR rating, quarterback Bryce Young is the worst signal-caller in the NFL.

Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, interviewed with the Panthers during the offseason last year, but he ultimately made the decision to return to Motown because he felt he had unresolved business with Detroit. Many think that Johnson might become a target once more now that the team has an opening. The NFL media reported that “it wouldn’t be a surprise if they made a run at him, among others.”

The gifted offensive play-caller for Detroit has consistently sidestepped questions about his future, preferring to concentrate on his weekly preparation and work with head coach Dan Campbell to keep the offense improving. It would be shocking if Johnson ended up choosing to work for an owner who has lost respect in the NFL world because of his apparent need for involvement in the Panthers’ football operations. It is expected that Johnson will be the most sought-after head coaching candidate this offseason.

The Panthers’ interim coach at the moment is Chris Tabor, coordinator of special teams, with Jim Caldwell serving as special assistant in charge of the offense.
