Giants sign wide receiver and cut a once-promising third-round pass-rusher.
On Thursday afternoon, the New York Giants signed a wide receiver to the practice squad and released a once-promising third-round prospect, among other roster moves.
Oshane Ximines, a former third-round selection in 2019 who had provided some good value in the previous few years, was cut. Ximines played 529 snaps in the previous season and recorded 12 tackles, 3 sacks, and 15 pressures. He had potential out of Old Dominion, but he had not grown into an impact player.
Ximines was, in fact, the first Old Dominion player to be drafted before the Giants selected Tre Hawkins in the sixth round of the most recent draft class.
The Giants Leave Ximines Behind
Ximines recorded six sacks and sixteen pressures with 12 tackles during his rookie season, which accounted for 25 of his career total of 53 pressures over 1,376 snaps. He was mostly called up after the practice squad to help cover some shortages, most notably Azeez Ojulari missing more time due to injury. This year, he played 52 snaps and recorded three pressures.
The Giants signed former Eastern Michigan receiver Dylan Drummond to the practice squad to take Ximines’ spot. Throughout his collegiate career, the 6-foot, 179-pound pass catcher gained 2,028 yards and 14 touchdowns. He participated in ten games in 2020 and gained 525 yards and three touchdowns. Drummond’s chances of making the team are slim, but the Giants are merely bolstering their P-squad with additional players.
