Hayden Hurst, a tight end for the Carolina Panthers, has not played since sustaining a concussion during a game against the Chicago Bears on November 9.

Hurst’s father, Jerry, has now provided us with additional information regarding his son’s status. On Wednesday, he made an announcement on social media.

This terrifying scenario shows how dangerous football can be for players who step onto the field.

The following is the definition of post-traumatic amnesia given by the brain injury association Headway:

“(PTA) is the period of time following an unconsciousness period during which the injured individual is awake and conscious but acting or speaking in an unusual or unusual way.”

This is not the same as chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which is more well-known in the football community and has been linked to several former NFL players’ suicides. CTE diagnosis can only be verified after death. Regarding PTA, the same cannot be stated.

Other than the statement made by his father, not much more information is available regarding Hurst’s situation.

The NFL is launching the My Cause My Cleats campaign this month. Hurst, for his part, is using the campaign to raise awareness about suicide among veterans. In addition, he is the director of The Hayden Hurst Family Foundation, which assists in offering community members mental health programs.

Hurst, a South Carolina native selected in the first round by the Baltimore Ravens in 2018, became a free agent this past spring and signed with the Panthers. Before suffering the previously mentioned concussion in nine games, he had caught eighteen passes for 184 yards and a touchdown.

Videos from earlier on Wednesday appeared to show Hurst practicing with the Panthers while wearing a non-contact jersey.
