The brutal reason AFL player Taylor Adams left Collingwood to join the Sydney Swans is revealed: “I sensed that my football was slipping.”
AFL player Taylor Adams gave insight into his reasons for leaving premiers Collingwood in order to sign with Sydney Swans prior to the 2024 season.
Adams, 30, acknowledged that when he was substituted out of the midfield, it was clear the writing was on the wall. Adams missed the Magpies’ grand final victory because of a hamstring injury.
After giving it some thought, the vice captain concluded it was time for a new beginning in Harbour City as he watched on at the MCG as his teammates won their first flag in twelve years.
“Being a part of the grand final would have been nice, but life happens,” Adams remarked.
By year’s end, I was obviously playing outside of my ideal position at Collingwood. There’s definitely room for another inside midfielder at the Swans, and I [also] felt like my footy was declining.
The Swans, who participated in the grand final two years ago and the finals this year, are in a fantastic position within the football club.
“My fiancé and I are starting over, leaving the Melbourne bubble behind, moving up to the Eastern Suburbs, and trying something new.”
After Buddy Franklin left the team, the Swans quickly changed up their roster, adding Brodie Grundy, Joel Hamling, a former Fremantle defender, and James Jordan, a former Melbourne Demons midfielder, as new players to the Bloods.
Adams emphasized that his job is to “enhance the club culture,” not to alter it.
By September 30 of the following year, he also hopes to raise the Premiership trophy.
“It’s pretty obvious that there’s only one thing I want to get my hands on,” he stated to News Corp.
I participated in the 2018 Grand Final of the Granny but was not successful.I have spent the last twelve years pursuing one of them [flags].
“Towards the end of your career, winning a premiership becomes even more important.” I hope that’s why I’m here, and together, we can get one.
