Disappointing News For Tennessee The Coach Has.

With just one game remaining in the 2023 season, Tennessee’s 21st-ranked Vols will take on 17th-ranked Iowa in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl in Orlando on New Year’s Day. The game is still a few weeks away. But December is very much a month when roster management comes into focus, with head coach Josh Heupel and the coaching staff traveling to visit prospects, the Early Signing Period quickly approaching, the NCAA transfer portal open for business, and an additional element to the recruiting process for programs. A portion of that occurred during the season as well; Tennessee’s season-long participation report lists the players who are qualified for a redshirt this year.

During the regular season, 105 players were used by the Vols. Twelve games were played by thirty-six different players. Quarterback Joe Milton III, running back Jaylen Wright, wide receivers Squirrel White and Ramel Keyton, tight end Jacob Warren, offensive lineman Ollie Lane, linebacker Aaron Beasley, and safety Jaylen McCollough were the eight players to start all 12 games.

Are you hoping to catch a glimpse of Tennessee’s defense before the 2024 season and the offseason begin?

For that, there is a GoVols247 Podcast.

Through the power of the internet, GoVols247’s Wes Rucker (of Fort Rucker Studio), Ben McKee (of his undisclosed home studio), and Ryan Callahan (of his home daycare center) got together to begin previewing Tennessee’s defense for the 2024 season and the offseason.

Of course, Tennessee has a bowl game coming up on New Year’s Day in Orlando, where the 21st-ranked Vols will take on 17th-ranked Iowa in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl. However, even bowl preparation is essentially the start of the season, and Josh Heupel and his staff have a lot of work ahead of them. This week’s first podcast episode, which can be found HERE, gave an early look at the possibilities for Tennessee’s offense going into the offseason and 2024. This episode focuses on the opposing side of the ball.

This episode includes a discussion of Tennessee’s defense at all three levels. And there was a lot to talk about on all three levels for a group that has done fairly well overall but has to get better in order for the program to advance.

As usual, there’s a lot to talk about, and this episode covers a lot of ground.

Friday is when the next GoVols247 Podcast will be released, barring any major breaking news before then.
