Cavaliers guard Strus wins an Emmy and goes back to Miami.
Miami (AP) — Max Strus’ tenure in Miami was devoid of any Larry O’Brien Trophy victories.
But instead he got an Emmy.
After leaving the Heat for the Cleveland Cavaliers as a free agent last summer, Strus was featured in a program that followed his journey to the NBA and Miami. For this reason, he was awarded an Emmy statuette.
The Heat won two Emmys at the Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards show last weekend in the “Sports Program — Post-Produced or Edited Series” category, one of which was “Inside the Heat — Max Strus.” Another show that focused on Heat executive vice president and general manager Andy Elisburg also took home a trophy.
“Our time with Max and his family was truly enjoyable,” Erik Spoelstra, the coach of the Heat, stated. “We had a great time getting to know his family.”
This week, Strus made light of the fact that he wasn’t sure if Miami would give him a red carpet welcome in exchange for his Emmy. About an hour before Friday’s game, he agreed to a modest ceremony during which, yes, he gave a speech.
After receiving his statuette, Strus told the Bally Sports staff, “Never thought I would have gotten one of these.” After expressing gratitude for their efforts, he said, “This is all you guys. All I was in was the video. This was made possible by you guys.
Strus, who signed a four-year, $64 million contract with the Cavaliers, was averaging 14.5 points as of Friday. Strus played for the Miami Heat for three seasons, starting their runs to the NBA Finals in 2023 and the Eastern Conference Finals in 2022.
On December 2, the Emmy winners were revealed. Elisburg got their statuette on Monday, and the Heat had their first chance to give Strus his on Friday.
