We at Hail Florida Hail were among the many fans who expressed doubts about Florida football’s decision to pull Graham Mertz from the transfer portal when it happened last year. Billy Napier’s move proved to be a successful one.

In light of this, Napier is turning to the Wisconsin Badgers once more in an attempt to fill a need for 2024.

At 6’1″ and 200 pounds, Chimere Dike is listed as a wide receiver. After high school, he was rated as a four-star prospect by 247 Sports, a three-star by ESPN, and a three-star by Rivals.

He was a one- or two catch-a-game type of player in 2020 and 2021, and he committed to Wisconsin as a member of the class of 2020. In 2022, he had a standout season with 44 receptions for 653 yards. That season, he had another career-best performance against Northwestern, catching 10 passes for 185 yards and three touchdowns.

Mertz was the quarterback who was throwing the rock to Dike on that particular day.

Dike is currently being pursued by Florida football, and he is one of several players that the team is expected to see this weekend after using the transfer portal.

Mertz left Wisconsin, and Dike’s output fell back to what it was in 2021. He only had 19 catches for 328 yards this season.

This season, he was an average of 14.4 yards down the field for each attempt to pass to him; however, in 2022, with Mertz, that average was 11.5 yards. Ricky Pearsall, in contrast, had an ADOT of 11.1 yards this season.

It suggests that, at least for the time being, Florida is not pursuing the most visually appealing receiver in the portal. Earlier this week, we highlighted a few of the more well-known names on the portal, and Florida has not yet been publicly connected to any of them.
