TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS HEAD COACH HAS WRAPPED UP THE.

The Vols coach Josh Heupel wrapped up Tennessee’s official visits this past weekend. On Sunday morning, he and his staff traveled to several states to start the last week of contact before Early Signing Day. Heupel began by scheduling visits with several of Tennessee’s 2024 class’ top players.

On Sunday, Heupel traveled to South Carolina with offensive coordinator Joey Halzle and quarterbacks coach Kelsey Pope, the wide receivers coach, to have an in-home visit with four-star Tennessee wide receiver commitment Braylon Staley. The top-ranked prospect from Strom Thurmond High School in Johnston, South Carolina, told GoVols247 on Friday that he was ending his recruitment and intending to remain with the Vols in spite of South Carolina, his home state, making a strong push in the last two and a half months.

Gregg Polinsky, the assistant coach for Tennessee basketball, met with the media on Monday afternoon following the Volunteers’ 86-79 victory over No. 20 Illinois, which was ranked at the time, over the week prior.

Polinsky talked about the Vols’ victory, the performance of a number of players, his professional journey, Tuesday night’s game against Georgia Southern, and a lot more. Here’s what Polinsky had to say at Food City Center’s Thompson-Boling Arena.

“I believe we can probably include everyone, but Zakai undoubtedly had a significant role as well. (He) kind of charged the building, which is very helpful with this kind of crowd. I believe that by the time the second half ended, we knew what had to be done. It was discussed by the coaches at halftime. The game plan and the defensive effort were excellent. Rod did a fantastic job getting us ready in this room. However, I don’t think we were quite as focused and energized as we needed to be in the first few minutes of the second half.

And then, as time passed, I believe we kind of settled into a defensive rhythm. On the offensive, that’s all anyone talks about, but when it comes to defense, we settled into a groove. We have a few matches. Because of their size and attempt to take advantage of some of our guys by having large guards, I know they were keen on it. However, I believe we reached a point where we established a rhythm, figured out how to play, and were able to assist because as the game progressed, our rotations became much more effective.
