TORONTO RAPTORS HAS AGREED WITH $650 DEAL WITH.
According to Tommy Beer of Basketball News, the New York Knicks’ starting point guard Jalen Brunson will probably miss Monday’s game against the Toronto Raptors.
This past weekend, Jalen Brunson sustained an ankle injury late in the Knicks’ 133-123 loss to the Boston Celtics. Before suffering the injury, Brunson had a team-high 23 points, tied with RJ Barrett. With 30 points in the end, Derrick White was too much for New York to contain. On Saturday, big man Kristaps Porzingis returned from injury and scored 21 points.
The point guard for the Knicks hurt his ankle during garbage time. Julius Randle threw him an inbounds pass, and he managed to catch it before Celtics guard Payton Prichard’s feet got in the way. Outrage among the New York faithful was caused by Brunson taking the court during garbage time.
Tom Thibodeau, the head coach of the New York Knicks, came under heavy fire from the crowd for starting Jalen Brunson when the game was already decided. He said he had no regrets about leaving his backup point guard on the floor, though, and he remained unfazed.
The Knicks have fluctuated in form ahead of their matchup with the Raptors on Monday.
After dropping its next two games to finish the season at 12-9, New York won three straight. Right now, the Knicks are the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, free agent big man Jontay Porter’s representatives Andy Shiffman and Mark Bartelstein have agreed to a two-way contract with the Raptors.
With Ron Harper Jr. waived and set to have shoulder surgery that will end the season, Toronto has a two-way opening, so signing Porter won’t require a countermove.
Porter, 24, is the younger brother of Michael Porter Jr., a forward for the Nuggets. Similar to his brother, Jontay experienced early-career injury setbacks, including two ACL tears. Nevertheless, he played for the Wisconsin Herd in 32 G League games the previous season, averaging 12.4 PPG, 10.1 RPG, 3.1 APG, and 2.2 BPG in 28.2 MPG with a shooting percentage of.390/.341/.667.
In an effort to receive compensation for representing the Pistons’ G League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise, the 6-foot-11 forward/center signed an Exhibit 10 contract in September. Prior to the start of the 2023–24 season, he was waived in October.
Porter has averaged 16.8 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.9 blocks in 10 Showcase Cup games (33.7 minutes per game) with the Cruise this autumn on a.456/.273/.667 shooting clip. Most likely, he is with Toronto’s NBAGL affiliate, the Raptors 905 most of the time.
Porter played in just 11 games for the Grizzlies in 2020–21, his only prior NBA experience.
