NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS SIGN QB PLAYER, WHO IS BETTER THAN Mac Jones.
The Patriots offense played some of its best football in a very long time on Thursday Night Football in Pittsburgh.
Bill Belichick’s team amassed a sizable lead thanks to three touchdown passes from Bailey Zappe, and they managed to pull off an unexpected 21-18 victory over the Steelers. Week 14 marked Zappe’s second start of the season. On Monday morning, Belichick was questioned about why it took him so long to choose the second-year quarterback over Mac Jones on WEEI’s Greg Hill Show.
Bailey performed previously in the year. played during the preseason — a lot during the preseason, according to Belichick. However, we decided to move forward when I felt it was the right moment to do so.
It’s interesting that Belichick brought up Zappe’s lackluster preseason. With a patchwork offensive line behind him, Zappe completed 58.8% of his passes (30-for-51) and threw just one touchdown pass in his three appearances while receiving the majority of the reps during the August exhibition games. Following training camp, Belichick benched Zappe. Zappe hadn’t exactly set the world on fire out of the bullpen, however, going 19-for-48 (48.7%) with two interceptions in his four relief appearances for Jones earlier in the season.
In response to a question concerning why Zappe did not start sooner following his debut, which ended in a 6-0 loss to the Chargers, Belichick also mentioned Jones and his position on the team.
“because we provided Mac with the chance to progress through the offense.” Naturally, there hadn’t been much production, Belichick remarked. “I felt Bailey was worthy of a game, so he played.”
When asked what Zappe has done well, Belichick reiterated his praise for the second-year quarterback’s stability on WEEI Monday.
Belichick remarked, “Bailey’s been pretty consistent.” He’s done an excellent job handling the ball at quarterback for the most part. There haven’t been many bad plays. Negative plays and turnovers alone. penalties associated with the position of quarterback. game’s delay. similar things. He has thus done a fantastic job leading the team and looking after the ball. Every player in the game feels that there are plays they could have performed a little bit better, but coaches and players always feel that way after the game.
But Bailey puts a lot of effort into learning new things every day and trying to make up for his mistakes. He’ll probably keep doing that, but his careful planning and attention to detail have put him on the right track for improved game performance.
