Mike Tomlin of the Steelers modifies position regarding WR George Pickens’ feelings: “There is an issue.”
Tomlin desires a more “solution-oriented” approach from his gifted young receiver.

Head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mike Tomlin, wrote off George Pickens’ apparent annoyance on the field a month ago as a “non-issue.” Tomlin shifted his position during his Monday interview with reporters.

With 767 receiving yards, Pickens leads the team among wide receivers, but he hasn’t caught a touchdown pass since October. Additionally, the 22-year-old hasn’t surpassed 100 yards receiving since defeating the Los Angeles Rams in Week 7. He has only recorded more than four receptions in a game once in the previous seven games.

During the team’s 20-16 victory over the Tennessee Titans last month, his displeasure with the Steelers’ offense was evident. Diontae Johnson, a wide receiver, led the team with a late touchdown in the victory. Pickens remained on the bench and seemed unhappy while teammates rejoiced.

Pickens’ attitude was ridiculed by Tomlin following the victory, stating, “I know it’s a cute story for you guys, but it is a pebble in my shoe, to be quite honest with you.”

Broadcast cameras have been capturing the receiver’s emotions during games for the past few weeks. Tomlin was seen talking to Pickens on the sidelines last Thursday after he seemed to show signs of frustration during the team’s loss to the New England Patriots.

The Steelers’ locker room doesn’t seem to be in a particularly good mood. The group has just recovered from two straight defeats. Veteran safety Minkah Fitzpatrick chastised the team after they were defeated by the Patriots.

“I think we need to have more people who want to work for it, not expect it to be handed to them,” he stated.

Following a loss to the Cleveland Browns, Fitzpatrick and Johnson were reportedly engaged in a heated argument. Johnson was soon made to answer for his obvious lack of effort in a victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Najee Harris, the running back, has also expressed openly his dissatisfaction with the offense. “There are many things that go on that you people are blind to. In November, he declared, “I’m just tired of this s*** at this point.” A few days later, Matt Canada, the offensive coordinator, was fired.

The Steelers’ encounter with the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday is crucial to the team’s prospects of making the playoffs.

T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith, the starting pass rushers, are both in the concussion protocol and may miss the Week 15 game. Kenny Pickett, the quarterback, will miss his second straight week of action while he heals from ankle surgery.

In Pickett’s place, Mitchell Trubisky will start once more. The backup quarterback discussed in a press conference on Tuesday how he intends to get along with Pickens.

Trubisky told reporters, “Get him the football, have open communication about what he’s seeing versus what I’m seeing.”
