Report: Heat's Victor Oladipo could play next season, despite expected knee surgery

The third and fourth metacarpals on Miami player right hand underwent successful open reduction and internal fixation surgery, Your Miami HEAT announced today.

At the Doctors Hospital Ambulatory Surgery Center, Dr. Ann Ouelette carried out the ninety-minute procedure under the supervision of Dr. Harlan Selesnick, a physician on the HEAT team. He is anticipated to be out for at least six weeks.

In 67 regular season games (all starts), Herro averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 34.9 minutes before suffering the injury during Miami’s Game 1 victory in Milwaukee on April 16. He made a single-season franchise record for the HEAT and the league by shooting 93.4 percent from the foul line. In addition, he formed the first-ever trio in team history to average at least 20 points per season in tandem with Jimmy Butler (22.9) and Bam Adebayo (20.4).

Following his torn anterior cruciate ligament in Monday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans, Miami placed starting center Connor Williams on season-ending injured reserve on Wednesday.

Williams, who is set to become a free agent in March, was hurt during the Dolphins’ opening offensive play in their 28-27 home loss to Tennessee, which caused Miami to drop out of first place in the AFC.

On that same offensive series, Williams’s loss was felt. Williams was one of Miami’s best offensive linemen. Tua Tagovailoa, the quarterback, and backup center Liam Eichenberg mishandled the snap, causing a fumble that gave the Titans the ball at the Tennessee 2-yard line.

While accepting responsibility for the poorly executed snap, Tagovailoa clarified that it was a transition from Williams to Eichenberg.
“I need to seize the opportunity,” he declared. “In practice, I don’t get as many repetitions with Liam. As far as the quarterback-center exchange goes, I get some reps, but Connor is our starting center, so that’s the only guy I work with in that regard. I just need to keep working on those with Liam, but it’s my fault, not his, and I’ll get better as a result.”

Now, the Dolphins’ offensive line is without four starters: In addition to Williams, Terron Armstead, a seasoned left tackle, was also sidelined by ankle and knee injuries on Monday. Rob Hunt, the starting right guard, missed action due to a hamstring injury. A quad injury Isaiah Wynn sustained against Philadelphia in Week 7 has kept him on injured reserve.
Although Armstead might make a comeback when the Dolphins play the New York Jets on Sunday, coach Mike McDaniel stated on Tuesday that he would be “pleasantly surprised” if Hunt was fit to play.
