Brian Burns, the outside linebacker, was not allowed to practice on Wednesday, and he was not alone.

Burns’ ankle injury was noted on the list. Having played 44 of the 52 snaps in the game against the Saints last week, he finished it.

Burns underwent ankle surgery this offseason, but he only missed one game while in the concussion protocol, which was the Week 10 matchup with the Bears. This season, he has 15 quarterback hits and 6.0 sacks.

He was among the numerous athletes who were absent on Monday.

Four players—Taylor Moton (also knee), Jaycee Horn, Troy Hill, and Adam Thielen—were designated for rest. Horn participated in every play during the Saints game last week; the remaining plays are typical Wednesday veteran days.

Three players, D’Shawn Jamison, DJ Johnson, and Jammie Robinson, were also listed as absent due to illness.

Guard Justin McCray (calf) and tight ends Ian Thomas (ankle) were also sidelined. Hayden Hurst suffered a concussion. After the first snap of last week’s game, McCray left, adding to the team’s regrettable string of guard injuries.

Punter Johnny Hekker (shine) was a full participant, but three players (Marquis Haynes Sr., back), Tommy Tremble, hip, and DeShawn Williams, knee) were listed as limited.

The Panthers’ first game following head coach Frank Reich’s dismissal ended in a 21-18 loss to the Bucs at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday night.

The Panthers, who dropped to 1-11 on the season, continued to struggle with passing the ball through the air as they only passed for 178 yards.

Participating in a wider offensive trend, Bryce Young completed 15 of 31 passes for 178 yards and one interception. They used a variety of looks throughout the game to change things up a little. They demonstrated previously unutilized motions, positioned Young under center, and ran longer, providing them with an opportunity to employ play-action.

It appeared to have some potential at times when he found DJ Chark Jr. for some downfield shots, something they hadn’t seen in a while.

That gave them a late opportunity prior to Bucs safety Antoine Winfield Jr. intercepting a pass on fourth down.

On a new career-high 25 carries, running back Chuba Hubbard had a strong performance with 104 yards and two touchdowns.

After Young’s two-point conversion run with 5:02 remaining in the game, his second touchdown narrowed the difference to three points.

However, Young was picked off on fourth down after being flushed out of the pocket on third-and-1 when the Panthers recovered possession of the ball.
