Teddy Bridgewater, the backup quarterback for the Detroit Lions, will play out the 2023 NFL season before retiring. The 31-year-old athlete told the Detroit Free Press in an interview that he intended to retire.

In order to support starter Jared Goff, Bridgewater inked a one-year contract with the Lions during the offseason. In 2023, he played in just one game and finished it with three kneels to help the team defeat the Carolina Panthers 42-24.

Bridgewater claims that after the previous season, he considered retiring, but Dan Campbell, the head coach of the Lions, persuaded him to give it another go. Bridgewater says he doesn’t regret the choice, even though he wasn’t able to play.
