Thomas Davis, a linebacker for the Carolina Panthers, is suspended for a PED offense.

Linebacker Thomas Davis of the Carolina Panthers has been suspended for the first four games of the 2018 season for breaking the NFL’s policy regarding performance-enhancing drugs, according to CBS Sports. Strangely enough, Davis revealed the information on Twitter first.

“I want to share some news with you guys that I received from the NFL,” Davis stated. “I was notified that my test resulted in a prohibited substance. This took me completely by surprise. I have never attempted to purposefully cheat the game in any way.”

According to Davis, he tested positive for an estrogen blocker that is prohibited by the NFL.

“I haven’t experienced any problems in the past seven or eight years taking the same supplements. Throughout the years, I’ve been tested multiple times while taking the same medication. Regretfully, taking supplements can cause certain side effects. My positive test result was actually caused by an estrogen blocker; I have never tested positive for steroids or HGH.”

Davis has now received a suspension for the second consecutive season. The previous first-round selection last season received a two-game suspension for savagely blocking Packers receiver Davante Adams. But after the NFL lowered the suspension on appeal, he was only required to serve one game.

The 35-year-old linebacker, who the Panthers drafted 14th overall in 2005, had previously declared that he would retire after the 2018 campaign. Nonetheless, it appears that the three-time Pro Bowler is now open to potentially playing past the 2018 season due to his four-game suspension.

After serving my four-game suspension, I’ll be ready to rejoin my teammates on the field. Who knows, maybe this won’t be my last season,” Davis stated.

Over the previous five seasons, Davis, who was named the NFL’s Man of the Year in 2014, has missed just two games in total. The linebacker was selected to the first team of the All-Pro team in 2015, the year the Panthers won 15 games and advanced to the 50th Super Bowl.
