Giants' Daniel Jones on neck injury: 'Biggest thing is dealing with contact'

The quarterback for the New York Giants suspended on the last play of the first quarter during their 30–6 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

According to head coach Brian Daboll, Jones will require nine months to recover, which will prevent him from playing in the 2023 NFL season.

Daniel Jones tore his right knee’s ACL on Sunday, forcing him to miss the entirety of the 2023 NFL season.

The quarterback for the New York Giants sustained an injury on the last play of the first quarter during their 30–6 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. He will have nine months to heal, which coincides with the opening of training camp in 2024.

Head coach of the Giants, Brian Daboll, stated on Monday that medical testing revealed Jones had sustained an ACL tear and that Jones had called to return to the game.

Daboll said, “He felt like [his knee] buckled, and then he was running it off.”

“He said, ‘Nah, I’m good,’ when we approached him and spoke with him.” He returned after that, and it was clear that he wasn’t.”

The Giants, who qualified for the playoffs the previous year and signed Jones to a four-year, $160 million contract in the offseason, have suffered setback after setback with the season-ending injury.

Tyrod Taylor, the backup quarterback for the Giants, suffered a rib injury during their 13-10 overtime loss to the New York Jets last week, and as a result, he is now on injured reserve.

When Jones, 26, tried to outrun Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby, his right leg failed and he fell to the ground, suffering an injury.

Jones dropped back to pass on the following play, but as he applied pressure, his right leg gave out once more, causing him to fall to the ground and grab his right knee.

Shortly after halftime, Jones was declared out of the game after leaving the field and being checked out in the locker room.

In place of Jones, undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito completed with 175 yards passing and a touchdown after throwing two interceptions in his first three pass attempts.

Before the injury, Jones completed four of nine passes for 25 yards. Jones had missed the previous three games because of a neck injury.
