Football in Michigan Lands In the Transfer Portal, a former Maryland player for the upcoming season, Michigan added a significant piece to its defense.

When Michigan added Nebraska linebacker Ernest Hausmann through the transfer channel during the previous season, it created a stir. After a full season, the Wolverines added another star player to their defensive line, this time from a different Big Ten team.

Jaishawn Barham, a former linebacker for Maryland, revealed on Twitter that he will be moving to Ann Arbor to play football at Michigan.

The linebacker, who attended St. Frances Academy in the class of 2022, transferred to Maryland. He was a recruit rated four stars.

Barham spent two seasons as a Maryland player. During his rookie season, he quickly rose to the top of Maryland’s defensive playing corps. He finished with four sacks, 6.5 TFLs, and 58 tackles. In 2022, Barham received the title of Freshman All-American.

Despite a slight decline in output in 2023, Barham remained one of the best players on the Terps defense. In 11 games this season, he recorded 37 tackles, three TFLs, and three sacks.

During his two seasons with the Terps, Barham started 23 games. Next season, the Wolverines will have a linebacker in Michael Barrett’s place at the very least. After this season, Junior Colson will have to make a choice. Barham can, however, line up at the Edge slot and play as a hybrid linebacker. How Michigan employs him in 2024 should be interesting to see.
