Despite the possibility of Kenny Pickett’s return, Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph is getting ready to start in week sixteen.

With a 7-7 record, the Pittsburgh Steelers are currently outside of the AFC playoff picture, trailing the Indianapolis Colts, the 7th-seeded team, by just one game following their Week 15 loss. Mitch Trubisky, the quarterback for the Steelers, was benched during that game in favor of Mason Rudolph, who is anticipated to start in Week 16.

Although starting quarterback Kenny Pickett may be able to return from the ankle injury that has kept him out of the team’s last two games, Rudolph spoke to the media this week about his expectations for the team and his preparation to start.

Rudolph thinks he will play this week after speaking with head coach Mike Tomlin: “… I talked to Coach T [Tomlin] for the final [decision], but as far as I know, I’m playing and that’s the way I’m treating it,” Rudolph said.

Rudolph has made 10 career starts and has a 5-4-1 record. He has thrown for 2,081 yards, completed 60.66 percent of his passes, and has a 13:10 touchdown-to-interception ratio in those ten starts.

Rudolph and the Steelers’ next opponent is the Cincinnati Bengals, who play in the same division and are one game ahead of them in the AFC playoff standings. Put differently, there are enormous postseason ramifications for this game.
