Colts' Jonathan Taylor Set to Return From Injury vs. Falcons - Sports Illustrated

Jonathan Taylor of the Colts will make his injury return against the Falcons

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, running back Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts is not listed on the injury report for this week’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, suggesting that he will play in his first game since November.

Taylor missed the last three games due to thumb surgery that he had in late November. The 24-year-old has only played in seven games this year, totaling 414 yards and four touchdowns. He also missed the opening four weeks of the season due to an ankle ailment.

Indianapolis is one of three teams in the AFC South with an 8–6 record on the season, which ties them for first place. Without Taylor, the Colts went 2-1, with Zack Moss and Trey Sermon filling in for him at running back. The team’s victory over the Steelers on Saturday was particularly noteworthy.

To close off the season, the Colts play host to the Houston Texans and Las Vegas Raiders after traveling to Atlanta on Sunday.

With their Week 16 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are back in the driver’s seat in the NFC South after having to fight back from losing it.

It would be an understatement to say that the Buccaneers could use a victory this weekend, but it’s not absolutely a must-win.

Fortunately, Tampa Bay will be led into battle by one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, even if it’s just another ordinary want-to-win game.

This is due to the fact that quarterback Baker Mayfield, who is ahead of players like Patrick Mahomes but below players like Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers, has the ninth-best quarterback rating in the NFL heading into the weekend.

In order to get there, he has placed among the top 10 in touchdown and interception rates. He is also expected to pass for 3,500 yards this weekend and 4,000 yards by the end of the regular season.
The Los Angeles Rams’ victory over the New Orleans Saints, who are currently in second place in the NFC South, on Thursday night gave the Bucs a half-game advantage in the division.

This implies that the Buccaneers would be in a division-clinching situation the following weekend when New Orleans visits Raymond James Stadium if they defeat the Jaguars this weekend and even if the Atlanta Falcons defeat the Indianapolis Colts.

With Trevor Lawrence out due to a concussion, Jacksonville is expected to start C.J. Beathard as the backup quarterback this weekend.

Beathard has never faced the Jaguars, even though Tampa Bay has experienced some difficulties versus backup quarterbacks throughout the years. The Jaguars have a 4-3 series edge in their head-to-head record.
