ACCORDING TO THE BLEACHER REPORT, NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS ARE.
According to the people at Bleacher Report, this is one of the more shocking Patriots rumors—at least that’s how they are presenting it. And it would be surprising in a lot of ways. To start, it would mean that the Patriots would have to make a play that they simply wouldn’t do under Bill Belichick. In addition, even though the Bengals could still use the franchise tag to retain Tee Higgins, they would have to trade him away.
However, in spite of everything, B/R writer Alex Ballentine is proposing a trade that would send Higgins to New England and is titled “Shocking NFL Trades That Could Shake Up the 2024 Offseason.”
Once more, only if Belichick decides to leave the team and goes elsewhere after the season—a move that has been a mainstay of Patriots rumors the entire season—could this deal actually be completed. However, if he does indeed leave, the Patriots will likely select a new quarterback with their first-round pick and possibly a young, experienced receiver like Higgins with their second-round selection.
Higgins is as good a candidate as anyone if the Patriots are looking for a wide receiver who makes sense. Though he had injury struggles this season, he turns 25 next month and had 1,000-yard seasons in 2021 and 2022 alongside Ja’Marr Chase.
With the No. 2 overall pick they currently hold, the Patriots should be able to select a top quarterback. He will require a thrower.
This is how author Alex Ballentine argues in favor of a possible Patriots-Bengals trade.(Jeremy from ESPN) If the Bengals made Higgins available, Fowler stated that he would “have a strong market.”
One of those teams that might be interested is the New England Patriots. They may try to surround a quarterback like Drake Maye or Caleb Williams with support during their rookie season if they need wide receiver help right now.
If the draft were held today, the Patriots’ second-round selection would come in at pick 35 overall. That is essentially a late first-round pick, whereas the Bengals would still project the 2025 first-round pick as an early selection.
In the meantime, the Patriots would have a reliable No. 1 receiver, which is currently one of their greatest needs.
Reportedly, Belichick is linked to the Patriots. The team owner Robert Kraft has already made the decision to sever ties with Belichick, according to Tom Curran of NBC Sports Boston. Kraft took this action following the team’s meaningless 10-6 loss to Indianapolis in Week 11. However, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Belichick can win the job with a strong finish.
