Colts cut loose a former first-round pick following Julian Blackmon’s inactive status.
With two games remaining in the season and safety Julian Blackmon out for the season, the Indianapolis Colts are fighting for the last AFC playoff spot. They are currently trying to find some depth in the secondary.
According to Aaron Wilson, the Colts brought in four defensive backs for tryouts on Thursday, including Karl Joseph, a former first-round selection. It’s unclear if Indianapolis will sign any of the players, but they’ll definitely need another body in case more injuries happen in the upcoming two weeks.
Out of all the players the Colts worked out, Joseph stands out the most. Joseph, a six-year NFL veteran, last participated in two games for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021. Despite not playing because of an injury, he stayed with the Steelers in 2022.
After being selected in the 2016 draft by the Oakland Raiders, Josepth spent four seasons with the team, starting 41 of 49 games. Before joining the Colts, he played in 14 games for the 2020 Cleveland Browns, starting eight of them.
Colts clouding the situation
The Colts are severely hurt by Blackmon’s loss, which occurs at one of the worst points of the season. The Colts have lost two of their last three games after winning four straight, and they don’t have much leeway in the AFC playoff picture.
