After two other teams lost, the Patriots claimed cornerback Marco Wilson off waivers.
The new england patriots have been successful on the waiver wire this season, which is a direct result of their lackluster performance. Despite the fact that two other clubs also submitted claims, they were able to bring their newest member on board.
The Tennessee Titans and Denver Broncos reportedly courted cornerback Marquan as well, according to a Field Yates of ESPN report. But Wilson may be brought in because the 4-11 Patriots control the fourth priority in the waiver claim order, which is the same as the current draft order.
In contrast, the 7-8 Broncos are ranked 14th, while the 5-10 Titans are placed seventh. A player only becomes a free agent on the open market if he is completely unclaimed on the waiver wire.
The fact that teams are interested in Wilson is not shocking.
During his three-year NFL career, the incredibly athletic cornerback, who was formerly selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the fourth round of the draft, has made appearances in 44 regular season and postseason games, starting 38 of them. His resume lists three forced fumbles and three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
However, earlier this week, Arizona made the decision to waive him. As a result, the rest of the league can now pick him up; the Patriots are hoping to take advantage of this in order to boost their injured cornerback group.
Throughout the year, New England lost or parted ways with a number of important players in that role. Gonzalez, Christian, and
In the Patriots’ victory over the Broncos last week, the starting cornerback group included Breon Borders from the practice squad, Jonathan Jones, Myles Bryant, Shaun Wade, and Alex Austin. Wilson has now also been included in the mix.
The 24-year-old is now the seventh player that New England has acquired off waivers this season. Along with Wilson, the group also included linebacker Christian Elliss, quarterback Nathan Rourke, running back JaMycal Hasty, quarterback Matt Corral, defensive tackle Marquan McCall, and wide receiver Thyrick Pitts. Only Wilson, Hasty, Elliss, and Rourke are still with the squad out of the seven.
