Breaking: The star running back for the New York Giants gets a ridiculous fine.
The New York Giants almost made a huge comeback against the Philadelphia Eagles this past week. This was a game in which Tyrod Taylor came in for Tommy Devito as the offense was sputtering for most of the game. Taylor came in and played great and had the Giants fighting all game just to come up a bit short to an Eagles team that clearly has some issues. In the second quarter, star Running back Saquon Barkley lowered his head on a short run to run through an Eagles player.
It was reported by Tom Pelissero today that the NFL came down pretty hard on Barkley and the Giants. It was reported that Barkley received a fine for $21,855 dollars for the unnecessary roughness on This is a common theme so far for the NFL this year with the Giants star not being the first to receive this fine for this specific penalty, and the NFL has made it a priority clearly, with the severity of the fines, that it wants to get rid of offensive players lowering their head into defensive players.

These are heft fines to be handing out to stars so the NFL must really want to get rid of running backs specifically lowering their head to give contact to defensive players.
This is a step in the right direction, as the NFL has long been protecting offensive players, making many new rules to get rid of dangerous play from defensive players. Now they are trying to take away offensive players putting defensive players at risk by lowering the head.
The Giants are not playing for any playoff hopes , but Saquon can potentially move from on from the Giants else where. After a big fine like this it will be surprising to see Saquon lower his head again.
