Gators leave a lasting impression on the S transfer from Tulane DJ Douglas while on the property.
The Florida Gators hosted a handful of prospects in town this week for official visits from the NCAA Transfer Portal. One of those several names to make their way to Gainesville during that stretch was former Tulane safety DJ Douglas. The grad transfer defender arrived in town on Wednesday and spent time in Gainesville till departing around mid-day Friday. This was his first time at UF, and was a chance for him to learn as much as he could about the Orange and Blue.
“I really wanted to take my time and take the visit for the full couple days. Get the whole experience to see if this is a place I really wanted to go. It let me catch the whole atmosphere there and see how everything operated. I had a fantastic time. It was great. I got to chop it up with Coach [Austin] Armstrong the DC, we went over different packages they have and stuff. We looked and talked about everything really. Looking over the defense, talking about all the new recruits they have coming in, and met with the strength and training staff. Just showing me around and they gave me a great time.”
SAN ANTONIO: The 2024 All-American Bowl, which features college football’s next generation of stars, begins play on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET from the Alamo Dome. The recruiting and scouting teams at 247Sports have observed several recruits who are improving from check-in to Days 1, 2, and 3 of practices this week. In anticipation of the NBC showcase between the East and the West, we’re highlighting 13 players in the game that are worth keeping an eye on and who could have a big impact on their teams right away when the 2024 college football season kicks off. Ten four-stars and a three-star are listed below, with two of 247Sports’ thirty-two five-stars at the top. Who should fans look forward to seeing?
It feels unfair to select the nation’s top overall player and possibly the best wide receiver prospect of the current recruiting class for a practice like this, but after witnessing Jeremiah Smith live for the first time this past weekend, it’s difficult to resist falling in love with the nearly 6-foot-3, 215-pound pass catcher with incredible 34 1/2-inch arms. The Ohio State recruit appears to always have an answer for whatever the opposing defender throws at him, and he moves at a different pace than any other player in the room. If Ryan Day didn’t get Smith onto the field as soon as possible, we would be shocked.
In addition to being the greatest in their sports, Gatorade Players of the Year are also role models in the community and in the classroom. Lagway has done volunteer work in the community by engaging the elderly in games and arts and crafts projects. In addition, he has given his time to a local food bank and spoken in public at local churches and schools, educating younger students on the importance of academic and athletic success. Lagway has kept up a 3.48 GPA in the educational setting.
