Just In: Texas Rangers Massive Deal Has Been Approved.

Texas Rangers to Sign Wanted Starting Pitcher, Per MLB Insider
Although the Texas Rangers haven’t made many purchases, at least one MLB insider predicts that the World Series winners will make more to hold onto Jordan Montgomery.

Yankees Rumors: Rangers development could derail NYY's Jordan Montgomery pursuit

Jordan Montgomery, a left-handed starter, should return for the Texas Rangers.

It appears that Montgomery is wanted back by the Texas Rangers front office.

Hurtado Barbecue is so eager for Montgomery to return to Arlington that they are even promising him free barbecue for life.

Montgomery, though, is still unsigned. After a brief run with the Rangers, where he established himself as one of their best starts and helped secure many significant postseason victories, including Game 7 of the American League Championship Series in relief of Nathan Eovaldi, the 30-year-old free agent should have no shortage of suitors.

Now, it’s time for Montgomery to close agreements, just like it is for other free agents like Blake Snell and Shota Imanaga. In five weeks, pitchers and catchers report, and teams prefer to have every player on the roster, if at all feasible.

So where is Monty going to wind up?

Yankees Rumors: Rangers development could derail NYY's Jordan Montgomery pursuit

Insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today offered his ten predictions for the remainder of Spring Training on Sunday. This covered the places that a number of free agents ended up. Montgomery was one of them.

Despite finishing 10–11 overall, Montgomery’s 2023 season ended up being his best ever. He walked 48, struck out 166, and had a 3.20 ERA. With the Rangers, where he went 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA, those stats improved.

And he improved much more in the postseason. Montgomery had a 2.90 ERA and a 3-1 record. That served as the ideal springboard for securing a contract with lots of zeros at the end. Many predict he’ll sign a contract worth more than $100 million.

That would be fantastic news for Texas because three pitchers are anticipated to miss time in 2024 due to separate injuries: Max Scherzer, Jacob deGrom, and recently signed Tyler Mahle. A possible Opening Day rotation for Montgomery would include Dane Dunning, Andrew Heaney, Jon Gray, Nathan Eovaldi, and Cody Bradford as back-fills.
