The NFL’s 2023 regular season concluded on a win-and-in Sunday for three teams. To secure their spots in the NFC playoffs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Carolina Panthers 9-0 and the Green Bay Packers defeated the Chicago Bears 17-9. However, the Tennessee Titans defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 28–20.

The AFC playoff field was impacted for a longer time by the Jaguars’ defeat. It moved the Houston Texans from a wild-card qualifier with a first-round road game to the AFC South seed-holder with a home game the following week, and it guaranteed postseason berths to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills.

Buffalo would not have had a safety net going into Sunday night’s final regular season game against the Miami Dolphins if Jacksonville had prevailed to win the AFC South. However, the Bills-Dolphins game became a battle solely for the AFC East seed and a first-round home game after the Jaguars’ defeat, rather than a matchup for Buffalo’s postseason survival. The Bills turned out not to require the assistance. Miami was defeated 21–14 by Buffalo.

There are 58 players from Alabama high schools and colleges on the rosters of the 14 teams that will compete to determine the winner of Super Bowl LVIII. Additionally, 19 players with Alabama football ancestry are on the practice squads of the postseason teams. For every game, two members of the practice squad may be added to the active roster by each team. Out of the 14 teams, 12 players from the state are on injured reserve. The No. 1 seeds in each conference, the San Francisco 49ers (12-5) in the NFC and the Baltimore Ravens (13-4) in the AFC, earned first-round byes. On January 20 and 21, the top two seeds in each conference will play in the Divisional Round of the postseason. After the Super Wild-Card Weekend, the schedule for that round will be announced.

On January 28, the conference championship games will take place. Super Bowl LVIII will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on February 11 at 5:30 p.m. The game will be aired on CBS. Among the players on the playoff teams with ties to Alabama football.
