Three elite Colts free agents each expressed their original desire to return to Indianapolis. The Colts believe that Jonathan Taylor’s farewell is a portent of things to come.
INDIA — Just as Jonathan Taylor was about to secure the handoff, he noticed a 300-pound defensive lineman coming at him. The running back for the Indianapolis Colts then did what he does best, which is to leave the defender in his wake.
Amid all the bodies at the line of scrimmage, Taylor executed a jump cut to his right and discovered a running lane. Taylor ran into linebacker Blake Cashman on the second level after escaping Houston Texans defensive lineman Kurt Hinish in the backfield. Taylor high-stepped out of the tackle as Cashman dove for his legs, missing the mark.
Then Taylor looked over the field and noticed that there were barely forty yards of open area. Alec Pierce, a receiver, delivered the last, timely block that was all Taylor needed to go to the end zone for his longest score of the season, a 49-yarder.
The Colts’ biggest game of the season was taking over entirely on Saturday night, with a trip to the playoffs up for grabs for the winner. It was a classic performance, the kind he hadn’t given on a regular basis for the previous two years. With 145 yards and the game-tying touchdown five minutes into the third quarter, Taylor was leading the offense.
It was the kind of show for which a great number of people had been waiting a long time for the star to return. Taylor could definitely hear the murmurs. “Everyone’s asking, ‘Hey, when are you going to break a long run?'” he continued.
Was Taylor, the Colts’ single-season running leader and the NFL rushing champion in 2021, finally back?
Up to that point, he was. Later in the third quarter, Taylor had a heel injury that forced him to the sidelines and eventually the locker room. The Colts declared that he was unlikely to play again. They changed his status to questionable a few minutes later.
Quarterback Gardner Minshew stated, “That’s kind of been the whole year for him.” “He’s battling through one thing or another.” Late in the fourth quarter, Taylor would surprisingly find a way back into the game. “You must delve deeply,” Taylor stated.
With the Colts trailing by six points, Taylor came back on their last drive to assist the team in getting into the red zone. But on the game’s pivotal play,
With two Super Bowl triumphs, five consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances, and eight consecutive division crowns, the Chiefs are the most successful NFL team of the last ten years.
Without Kelce, it’s hard to imagine the Chiefs or their supporters having as much fun on the journey. When he famously referenced the Beastie Boys and said, “You’ve gotta fight for your right to party!” during the team’s AFC Championship triumph following the 2019 season, he gave the franchise an anthem.
