If the chance arose, Dejounte Murray wouldn’t object to returning to the San Antonio Spurs.
Dejounte Murray publicly expressed her adoration for Gregg Popovich on social media following the Hawks’ game against the Spurs in December of last year. Despite being traded from San Antonio to Atlanta in 2022, Murray continued to show his admiration for his previous coach.

Murray has been the subject of numerous NBA trade rumors in recent days. Before the February 8 trade deadline, the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat, and Detroit Pistons have all surfaced as possible destinations, according to a report from Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports.
The All-Stat guard revealed his curiosity in a potential trade when discussing the rumors surrounding his old team, the San Antonio Spurs, in a recent appearance on TNT. Murray said he was willing to evaluate any opportunity that came his way and that Popovich was more than simply a coach.
“I would embrace that, as my pop is like a father to me. However, I’m a Hawk right now, so I’m going to play professionally and honor the rules,” Murray stated.
Murray is shooting 46.9% from the field, 39.1% from outside the arc, and 82.1% from the free-throw line this season while averaging 21.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.3 blocks.
A $17.7 million profit is made by the Washington product. In July, Murray inked a four-year, $114 million contract extension with the Hawks. Murray’s earnings are projected to be $24.8 million in 2024–25 and $26.8 million in 2025–26.
