TalkSPORT understands that Kalvin Phillips has reached an agreement with Man City and will be joining West Ham.
A loan agreement has already been achieved after Tuesday’s talks between the Hammers and Manchester City.
He has already approved the finalisation of the relocation to the London Stadium.
As things stand, the teams have not yet agreed on a buy option. He will receive full pay of £160,000 per week from West Ham.
Manager David Moyes has pushed the Hammers’ interest in midfielder Phillips, an England native.
The 28-year-old is eager for a move to increase his prospects of playing at Euro 2024 because he has only played 89 minutes in the Premier League this season.
Even with star player Rodri sidelined, Phillips has found it difficult to break into Pep Guardiola’s starting lineup.
In July 2022, City and Leeds came to an agreement for the defensive midfielder that may be worth up to £45 million.
But in the last eighteen months at the Etihad, he has only made 31 appearances, most of them as a substitute.
Because of Sandro Tonali’s betting ban, Newcastle was eager to sign Phillips on loan, but they thought the terms City was requesting were excessive.
Although West Ham had won the race, Roy Hodgson made it known that Crystal Palace was interested in signing the midfield player.
The Hammers breezed past their Europa League group and are currently sixth in the Premier League.
All parties involved find Phillips’ transfer to City disappointing, and it may ultimately result in his permanent departure in the summer.
Even though he didn’t get much playing time, manager Pep Guardiola expressed regret to him and said he didn’t think he would fit into his plans.
He stated in December that he was unsure of what would happen. I’m so sorry about what I decided for him. I’ve stated it numerous times.
“I’m really sad, and he doesn’t deserve what happened to him.
“The only thing I can say about him is that he is the epitome of the good personalities and qualities I am asking for. And I was supposed to offer him something after that, but I didn’t.”It’s just that I have trouble seeing him when I imagine certain things, like the team and other things.
“I feel terrible for him and I’m not really happy with myself. I have to act professionally because this is a company, therefore I won’t say anything [to him].
