The NBA trade deadline is less than a week away for the Portland Trail Blazers and the other teams.
The Blazers have a lot of ammunition to offer, and veteran Jerami Grant, who leads the club in scoring, may be their most desirable trade chip.
Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposes a trade that would send Grant to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Moses Moody and Andrew Wiggins.
In essence, Grant is the Wiggins that Golden State constantly hoped will emerge but no longer sees very often. Grant is a key component of its switch-heavy defence and may be Curry’s backup scorer.
Regarding Portland, Wiggins is (slightly) younger and (reasonably) less expensive than Grant, and when both players are playing well, their differences don’t really show. Therefore, it’s possible that the Blazers will trade Grant for a less expensive version of himself and sign Moody, a 21-year-old who has shown impressive three-and-d skills when given the chance to play.
In the offseason, the Blazers inked Grant to a five-year contract, indicating their desire to retain him as their top veteran player for the foreseeable future in order to assist the younger players in the coming years. But if they are going to receive offers, they should at least research and think about it. Having said that, Grant should reject any deal right away if it does not include future draft compensation. Wiggins and Moody aren’t quite enough, and Portland wouldn’t consider selling Grant unless they received a very enormous deal.
